One step at time
Friday 26th JunThere’s something incredibly satisfying about setting yourself a challenge that pushes both your body and your mind. That’s exactly what the 13 Bridges Challenge did for me.
The route takes you across 13 bridges, offering a unique way to explore the city while covering some serious distance. What starts as an exciting walk quickly becomes a test of endurance, determination, and mental resilience.
From the first bridge, I was full of energy, enjoying the scenery and the peaceful moments by the water. Each bridge had its own character, and the changing views kept the journey interesting. Along the way I discovered parts of the city I’d never really appreciated before.
By the halfway point, my legs were definitely feeling the miles. That’s when the challenge became less about the destination and more about putting one foot in front of the other. A quick break, some water, and a few snacks made all the difference before continuing.
The final few bridges were the toughest. Every incline seemed steeper than the last, but knowing I was getting closer to the finish kept me moving. Crossing the thirteenth and final bridge brought a real sense of achievement. It’s amazing how completing a simple goal can leave you feeling so accomplished.
The 13 Bridges Challenge isn’t just about fitness—it’s about exploring, taking time to appreciate your surroundings, and proving to yourself that you’re capable of more than you think.
Tips for Anyone Thinking About Trying It
- Wear comfortable, well-broken-in walking shoes.
- Bring plenty of water and a few snacks.
- Check the weather and dress appropriately.
- Take your time—it’s not a race.
- Don’t forget your camera; there are plenty of fantastic photo opportunities.
Completing the 13 Bridges Challenge reminded me that adventures don’t always require travelling far from home. Sometimes the best experiences are right on your doorstep, waiting to be discovered one bridge at a time.
Have you completed the 13 Bridges Challenge? I’d love to hear about your experience and what your favourite bridge was.
