We are SSAFA

We are the UK's oldest tri-service charity, providing emotional and practical support to all members of our Armed Forces family.

Who we help

Our support covers both regulars and reserves in the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the British Army and the Royal Air Force and their families, including anyone who has completed National Service. We know and understand the unique demands of service life, whether in the UK or overseas, and in times of need, we ensure that no one in the Armed Forces family ever battles alone.

What we do

SSAFA helps the armed forces community in a number of ways, though our focus is on providing direct support to individuals in need of physical or emotional care.

Addiction, relationship breakdown, debt, homelessness, post-traumatic stress, depression and disability are all issues that can affect our members of our Armed Forces community. Many of these problems only become apparent when an individual has to leave their life in the Forces and join ‘Civvy Street’. SSAFA is committed to helping our brave men and women overcome these problems, and rebuild their lives.

We ensure that no member of the Armed Forces ever needs battle alone.

SSAFA helps over 50,000 people every year. Our dedicated Forcesline team answers hundreds of phone calls, emails and online messages every week. Our caseworkers and mentors - trained volunteers - connect with veterans in their local area, whilst our Serving Community Teams provide help to serving personnel and their families. Specialist services provide expert care for the bereaved, veterans caught up in the criminal justice system, the families of injured personnel, and for families living with additional needs.

All this is only thanks to the support given to us by you.

Thank you for helping us ensure that our Armed Forces family will never battle alone.
