I'm taking on the Naples to Monte Cassino Cycle for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity!
I am taking part in the Naples to Monte Cassino Cycle in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity on 1st-5th October 2026.
SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is a trusted source of support for serving personnel, veterans and their families in their time of need. In 2024 our trained teams of volunteers and employees helped more than 50,000 people, including veterans, serving personnel (regulars and reserves) and their families.
SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. And we are here for that person and their family, any time they need us and in any way they need us.

Well the journey is done 350km nearly 3000m of climbing and most importantly Naples traffic and cratered roads with no casualties. Our SSAFA ride to Monte Cassino was a fantastic mixture of hard riding, great company and lessons from history. The weather was fine unlike 1943 when our troops endured appalling conditions and hardship in a campaign to take Monte Cassino area and the surrounding high points. It took 4 attempts and cost the lives of 55 000 Allied and German troops. The beautifully kept cemeteries provide a lasting memorial to those who paid the ultimate price – average age just 23 years.
I am very grateful to all those who travelled to Naples to join the SSAFA ride. Your hard work on the bike was matched by your efforts in fundraising and so far we have raised somewhere in the order of £32,000 with hopefully more still to come. This much needed cash goes to SSAFA beneficiaries. People from all three services and their families that find themselves alone and in need of help. My sincere thanks to all those who worked so hard to raise money and to the individuals and corporate sponsors who provided their hard-earned cash in support of our efforts.
