SSAFA Warrior Challenge - Lapland

50Km Ultramarathon: I'm taking on the Warrior Challenge Lapland for SSAFA

I am taking part in the Warrior Challenge Lapland in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity on 23rd-25th January 2027, which will be a 50Km Ultramarathon through snow covered forests and across frozen lakes in potential temperatures of -30C. This will be no easy challenge and I thank you so much for your kind support!

I am paying my own way so that every penny I raise goes to SSAFA and its beneficiaries.

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is a trusted source of support for serving personnel, veterans and their families in their time of need. In 2024 its trained teams of volunteers and employees, working with other military charities, helped more than 50,000 people, including veterans, serving personnel (regulars and reserves) and their families.

SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. And they are there for that person and their family, any time they need them and in any way they need them.

My Updates

Training in earnest!

Sunday 11th Oct
Leading up to what is now the final few months ahead of the challenge I have completed 3 ultramarathons - two 50Km and one straight through for 100Kms. To date these have been predominantly walking, with the intent now that as my [aged] body gets stronger the running can start!

I have managed to stay free of any serious injuries, beyond the occasional blister and the loss of at least 4 toenails that is, and hope to remain that way. So slowly, slowly to start with and the single main objective being "get to the end".

I have one more 50Km planned for early December and will keep you posted!
