SSAFA Warrior Challenge - Lapland

I'm taking on the Warrior Challenge Lapland for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity!

I am taking part in the Warrior Challenge Lapland in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity on 23rd-25th January 2027.

Why Lapland?

Imagine running across frozen lakes, dense pine forests, and sweeping white landscapes, all beneath vast Arctic skies. Lapland offers a rare combination of isolation, challenge, and breathtaking natural beauty. This is not just a run – it’s a test of resilience, teamwork, and sheer determination.

I’ll be taking part in the 25km race. It’s only a half marathon you may say but the temperature that time of year is +3 to -30deg C and only 1-2 hours of daylight.

If any of you watched the Channel 4 program Arctic Adventure Ultimate survival, we will race on part of the route Foxy, Aldo, Woody & Karl used.

In preparation for this event, I’ll be taking part in the following challenges:

Feb 2026 – Big Bear Squirrel challenge – complete as many 5k laps of Daventry Country Park as possible in 6hrs……. I’ll be carrying a 11kg bergan so it’s not too easy!

Naseby 1645 race. The Naseby 1645 is a 16.45 mile road race that weaves it way through stunning rural Northamptonshire, passing seven Battle of Naseby 1645 memorials and viewpoints.

May 2026 – Isle of Wight Ultra – complete lap of the IoW over 2 days. In total it’s 66miles with 1800m elevation gain.

Sabre weekend 9 at Howgils in Cumbria. This is the test route that was used for the territorial SAS selection. 16 miles with over 1500m elevation gain, carrying a 11kg bergan.

October 2026 - Pilgrim 6 challenge. Three ascents of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons. 32km with 1800m elevation gain carrying a 16kg bergan.

During the year I’ll also be competing in the Northamptonshire 5K trail race series carrying a 35lb bergan!

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is a trusted source of support for serving personnel, veterans and their families in their time of need. In 2024 our trained teams of volunteers and employees helped more than 50,000 people, including veterans, serving personnel (regulars and reserves) and their families.

SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. And we are here for that person and their family, any time they need us and in any way they need us.

Thank you so much for your kind support!
