Whether it’s your first time or your sixth, this iconic 10-mile journey through London continues to stand out as a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s more than just a walk - it’s a vibrant celebration that unites people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities (plus a few enthusiastic dogs) in a powerful show of gratitude for our military community and everything they do for us.

Start times for the event are staggered every 30 minutes between 0800 and 1300 - when you register for the event you will be able to choose a start time block that works for you! If you would like to walk with friends or family please ensure you all book onto the same start time.

This is a very communal event; you'll be part of a group, so even if you sign-up on your own, you're never alone on the 13 Bridges Challenge!

What is the 13 Bridges Challenge?

The 13 Bridges Challenge is SSAFA's flagship Armed Forces Day fundraising event. Every year our participants have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to support our Armed Forces, ensuring that no matter who or where they are - serving personnel, reservists, veterans and their family members - all can turn to us in their moments of need.

What can I expect?

Participants on the 13 Bridges Challenge will follow the route along the banks of the River Thames, criss-crossing 13 of London's famous bridges. Around the course, at each end of the bridges (and any other tricky points along the route), there will be Military Event Marshals, there to show you the way and chat to you about their roles within the military. Along the way you'll see many of the incredible historic and architectural sites of the capital city, including the Tower of London, the Globe Theatre, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, and much, much more!

When you reach the finish line you'll be greeted with a roaring cheer-squad, refreshments, entertainment, and the chance to learn more about our Armed Forces while taking a well-earned rest!
